How to Replace Front Cap LED Lights in Your RV: A Step-by-Step Guide

We're diving into the essential process of replacing the front cap LED lights in your RV. With just a few tools and straightforward steps, you can brighten up your RV’s exterior and enhance its overall look.

Tools You Will Need

  • Wire cutters, strippers, and crimpers
  • Butt connectors
  • Clear sealant
  • Adhesive remover
  • Adhesion promoter
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Shop rags and rubber gloves
  • New LED light strip

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Remove the Old Lights
Start by gently peeling away the current LED lights from the front cap.
  2. Clean the Surface
Use adhesive remover to clean the area where the new lights will be installed. Follow up with isopropyl alcohol for a thorough clean.
  3. Prepare the Wires
Carefully pull the light wires out of the wall until you have enough length to work with. Cut the old light free, leaving as much wire as possible for the new installation.
  4. Using Butt Connectors
Since the hole in the cap is not large enough to remove the bell connectors, use butt connectors to slide the wires back through one at a time. Cut one wire about 2 inches shorter than the other for easier connection.
  5. Connect the Wires
Strip ½ inch of coating from each wire and use properly gauged butt connectors to attach them to the new LED light strip. Before sealing everything, test the light to ensure it works.
  6. Secure the Wires
Once confirmed the lights are operational, gently push the wires back into the cap.
  7. Prepare the Installation Area
Use a rag with adhesion promoter to apply to the surface where the new light strip will be installed.
  8. Install the New Light Strip
Peel the backing off the new LED light strip, align it carefully, and press it firmly onto the surface.
  9. Seal the Installation
Use clear sealant to seal both ends of the light strip and the hole, ensuring a watertight fit.

By following these steps, you'll not only enhance your RV's appearance but also ensure that your lighting is functional and secure. Happy camping!
