How to Replace Your RV Compartment Door Seal: Step-by-Step Guide
Over time, the seals on your RV’s compartment doors can become cracked or torn, compromising their ability to keep water and debris out. Keystone’s Bart Taylor provides a step-by-step guide to help you replace your compartment door seals and restore your RV’s protection.
Tools Required:
- Proper length of new seal for the door
- Scissors
- Adhesive remover
- Isopropyl alcohol (or adhesive promoter)
- Rubber gloves
- Flashlight
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Remove the Old Seal
Start by carefully removing the old seal from the compartment door. Use adhesive remover if needed to help lift it away.
2. Clean and Prep the Surface
Once the old seal is removed, clean the surface thoroughly using an adhesive remover. Afterward, wipe the area down with isopropyl alcohol to ensure the surface is free of any remaining adhesive and ready for the new seal. This step ensures the new seal adheres properly.
3. Install the New Seal
Begin installing the new seal at the bottom of the door. Work your way around the corners of the door until you complete the installation, making sure the seam is at the bottom of the door. This is crucial to prevent water from getting inside the compartment. With the seam at the bottom, water will flow out and away from the RV instead of seeping in.
4. Check for Proper Sealing
After installing the new seal, close the compartment door. Use a flashlight to check all around the edges to ensure the door is properly sealed. If you notice any gaps, make adjustments to the seal as needed.
